Subject: ATL New Intl Terminal

Hi Mark,

We returned yesterday afternoon from Europe and arrived at Gate E5 in ATL. Then we walked - - - and we walked - - - - - and we walked, all the way to F Concourse to the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility located in F Concourse.

Recall this announcement from Delta (emphasis mine):

On May 16th, the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal will open at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Most international flights will arrive at Concourses E or F, although some from "pre-cleared" countries will arrive on Concourses T through D. If Atlanta is your final destination you will claim your baggage at the international terminal, which also offers a passenger pickup location and a ground transportation center. If you are being picked up, please let your driver know the international terminal is accessible from Interstate 75. Free shuttles are available to the domestic terminal, which includes MARTA, and to the rental car center. Visit delta.com for more details.

The "international terminal" above, only refers to the new terminal at F Concourse, not E. This walk was an eye opener for us and we're only 73 years old. Let me caution everyone returning to ATL with their final destination ATL to insure they have only light-weight carry-on luggage. The distance we walked seemed like half a mile or more. The tons of money Atlanta spent on art work for these concourses would have been much better spent on many more moving sidewalks. The few there are not nearly enough. All Atlanta destination passengers will process through CBP in F Concourse even if their flight parked at E concourse.

Connecting passengers arriving at E will process through CBP at E concourse then recheck their bags to their final destination as they have done in the past. Connecting passengers arriving at F Concourse will process through CBP at F concourse, then go outside and take the shuttle.
A designated shuttle (The International Shuttle Connector) will transport passengers from the arrivals level of the international terminal to the domestic terminal ground transportation center, which provides access to all domestic parking lots and MARTA.

It's a new day for ATL destination International passengers. The new terminal building is spectacular, it's huge with very high ceilings, but could be much more user friendly.

We non-revved home from Brussels and sat in Coach together, 25 F & G, so it's still possible to get around on S-3Bs.

Happy travels all.

Comments - I have found out that Marriott Hotels offers special rates for Delta folks at certain locations [usually near airports] First, go to the Marriott web site and pick a place i.e. ATL, fill out the dates and persons staying. Next, look for "Special Rates & Awards". Click on "Corporate/Promotional Code" and put "DLA" in the box and click "Find". I have used this for rooms in ATL and DTW. There are also properties near DFW,and JFK but haven't used them yet. ID required. Good Hunting!
