Dear PCN (of over 2600 subscribers),
What a Wonderful(ly) “Strange” World:
The great Louis Armstrong sang “What a Wonderful World” and it
is a classic. This is a wonderful world, but right now things are sure
strange. California just ordered the
entire state to all “stay home.” Florida has closed down the beaches to large
groups. Things are spiraling and
spinning and these days are really weird.
While we have heard this characterized as a war, in no way do our
inconveniences we are asked to do with this pandemic, compare with the
sacrifices of the WWII generation. But
it is definitely a unique moment in all of our lives.
Here is my
hope. I hope you are well and stay
well. I also hope we get through this in
short order (I’m ready to fly somewhere).
And I further hope that while we are in the fox hole we are taking some
time for study, reflection, praying and growing. When it is over, I hope we all
have some major take-aways. After all,
it’s A Wonderful World!!!
Assess the THREAT – Pandemic “Threat
Levels”
Notice that we are trained to ASSESS the Level of threat of any
onboard threat, such as a terrorist or a hijacker. Note too, that all major national physical
disasters have a Threat Level. Tornadoes,
hurricanes, earthquakes, terrorism, etc.
Pandemics are a national threat and there must be a response in
preparation and during the episode to cope.
WHY AREN’T PANDEMICS ASSIGNED A THREAT LEVEL of 1-5? If it is a 1 than you do this, if a 5 you do
this. What if this Covid-19 is not a
5? Yet, the response is as if it
were? See what I mean. An economy could be destroyed by
overreacting. Powers that be surely will learn their lesson by not having a
threat level for this pandemic with its accompanying action list for each
level.
On Quarantine
Personally, Barb and I are self quarantining until the end of
the month, and yes we are going stir crazy already. The other day, a statement on TV said that
Covid-19 only kills old people, so we sighed some relief, then we looked at
each other and went, “uh,oh!”
Yup, we are in the vulnerable group, but we are not afraid, no
siree Bob. However, I do think, all of
this is quite an over-reaction, we will comply with the hunkering down, until
the end of this month. I am hopeful,
like many of you, that Dr Fauci’s plan to ‘blunt’ the curve will be a
success. Praying for that to happen and
happier days will return soon!!
March Madness…..Boo-hoo:
Ok please do not quote me here.
I really do not wish anyone harm from this pandemic nor to lose a love
one. But the biggest tragedy for me of
this China Virus is the canceling of Spring sports. March Madness is a lot of fun and I was
really in the groove for it, but alas, here comes Covid-19. I guess we all must make sacrifices.
PCN subscribers:
I certainly do not need to tell you that since we formed the PCN
that we have lost a lot of good people of whom many were subscribers. 1554, is the number of those whose death
notice has been archived on the PCN Flight West page, as of this post. That is a lot of very very fine people that we
have lost. Our goal is to notify our
group and provide a lasting tribute in honor of their life at PCN Flight West.
Well, with that said, some of you may wonder how our level of
subscriptions has been impacted. In a
very real sense the numbers of subscribers, 2670, has remained virtually the
same as it was shortly after the merge forming the PCN of my old Retired Slug
Network and David Robert’s list back in 2009.
