Capt John D. Lindstrom
Every colleague we lose
and, who makes their final Flight West, is always sobering. Some of our fellow pilots, however, make a
real impression on us and a lasting impact and their passing is just higher
measure of sadness. Capt John Lindstrom,
who recently passed away at 84, was that kind of pilot for me and many at our
ORD base. I never actually flew with John but he was our
Chief Pilot at ORD during my early “formulative” years. Now mind you I was not
a known name in the office because I was a problem child. Mentioning those names always brought a wince
and were frequently talked about since their paperwork crossed the desk way too
often. Every CP has that list to
deal with on a regular basis. No, thank
God, I wasn’t on that list and I wasn’t an office fixture either. You know that type. They spend every spare moment out of the
cockpit filling the doorway of the office telling old stories, trying to learn
new rumors, and in general being a big lumpy road block to productivity. John handled them all with class, grace and
dignity. Yet, when I did need advice or help he always
seemed to have the time to listen and be responsive. John was calm, steady, quiet and a very very
good role model for young pilots such as myself.
When I saw his notice that
Carol sent out of his passing, I winced.
Not in the way the office used to about problem children, but because we
have lost truly one of our best. John
was one of our brightest and best. I
personally would like to pass on to Janice and the entire family my deepest
sympathies. We will all miss him, but
our loss is heaven’s gain. And to the
whole family please know this, that Capt John Lindstrom had a positive impact
on many many pilots who had the pleasure to work with and for him. And I was
fortunate enough to be one of them. God’s perfect peace.
