Following question on VA Pension is placed here under insurance
since it acts more like a safety net insurance then a true pension.

Mark, thanks once again for the time and energies you put
into the website for our benefit! We all owe our gratitude for your
concern and dedication. On the subject of the Vet pensions, I went
to the links you provided. A lot of us qualify as Vets, but the
income qual part is pretty restrictive (you've got to be almost destitute to
qualify, according to the sections I read). It seems you have to
have a very low income to be able to receive any kind of help....am I reading
this correctly? Don Palmer
Editor: Don thanks for your interest in this but you
are quite correct. However, before one
says they won’t be “destitute” (or know someone who is) with ongoing health
issues think again. Yes, the VA
“Pension” called Aid & Attendance (that I applied for for my dad and
received) acts a lot like a safety net when the vet has little else to help him
pay for long term care or assisted living.
To be quite frank, this may not be a VA benefit that many of us can
qualify for and receive. BUT, many
people we know, and a lot of vets we know, do not know anything about this
benefit and believe you me it can really be a help if they learn how to
qualify.
