Hi Mark,
Thanks for all the time and effort you put in to make PCN
available to the retired pilot group. We all appreciate your work.
But who is George and why did you find it necessary to share his biased
opinions and include a link to "Dick Morris TV? Dick Morris has
always seemed pretty slimy to many and lacks credibility. He doesn't have
a reputation of being neutral or of reporting objectively. I
really enjoy reading fact based and unbiased information. If the best you
can come up with on any given date are the slanted and pejorative filled
political views from "George" maybe you should delay publishing until
you have some real news. Please don't let PCN become a right wing blog
site.
Thanks
Bill Cunningham
Editor: I ran with George’s
post (who contributes often to the HL) because of the info…. not the
politics. I can assure you and others that I do
not want a political blog which is right, left or center. The info concerning the PBGC
was and is at the least interesting because of its potential effect upon our
retirements.

Delta and Airbus
As a Delta Air Lines retiree the recent news
that Delta Air Lines said it would buy (from Airbus) 25 A350-900s for its
Pacific Ocean flights and 25 A330-900neos, primarily for Atlantic Ocean flights
seems like a slap to the American worker and industry. A company like Delta Air
Lines can afford to buy from Boeing even if it cost a little more or they have
to wait a little longer. Actually I do understand, it's all about keeping the
share holders happy. It's what drives so many corporations. I wonder how many
boeing workers and subcontracters the Boeing order would have beneifited.
Sad and ashamed in Seattle!!!

VA Aid and Attendance Benefit
Mark,
I read in
one of your newsletters sometime ago about the "Aid and Attendance"
benefit for Vets. My father is a WWII vet that now needs in-home nursing care.
As you can imagine it is rather expensive and unfortunately not covered by
Medicare. Do you know of anyone that can provide more information or assistance
in applying for the VA's Aid and Attendance benefit?
Thanks for
your help,
Rob Haglund
Rob, Vets deserve some help at
this time and there is this program. We haven't been approved yet
but are hopeful.
The basics are a modest income, assets other
than car and home valued at 80,000 or below. And need with
Activities of Dailiy Living ADL's which your father obviously has.
There is 4 ways for a vet to pay for long term care as you already know. Insurance,
self assets, VA Aid and Attendance, or Medicaid. The last one the person
basically has to be a pauper and because of the look back for at least 5 years
prior to the need. The VA pays out a similar benefit but there is no 5
year look back and they allow a modest amount of assets ($80,000) to remain in
the Vets name.
Couple of website to learn more:
Good luck!

DELTA MASTER
SENIORITY LIST
Hello Delta pilots and pilot families,
For the past year or so several of us have started the process to create a DELTA MASTER SENIORITY LIST, a complete historical listing of every pilot who ever flew for Delta Air Lines, Inc. To do this, it was felt that creating it on a web site would be the most useful and secure place to work on it.
The web master is retired Captain Dave Davis with retired Captains Julian Black and myself working with him, and retired Captain David Ewing, Delta Golden Wings web master, advising us.
To date there are nearly 18,000 pilots listed with varying amounts of information. Finding that information is incredibly time consuming and this has become a very slow process. We need your help to input your own information and to be as complete and precise as possible.
As you know most Delta Seniority Lists showed only the pilot's Last Name and Initials with his or her date of hire, and seniority date if different. A lot of our needed database information is missing from those lists.
Each pilot on the MASTER LIST will be identified by his or her Full Name and their own seven-digit Delta Employee Number, a unique identifier for the data base. (If your employee number has less than seven digits, add zeroes in front of your number to get to seven digits.) The Master List is on the web site www.dlpilots.com . You can open it and read the instructions and background there, then follow the menu to fill out your own profile. The Suffix block has caused some confusion. That means Generational Suffix, i.e., Sr., Jr., II, III, IV, etc. All dates should be in the format, mm/dd/yyyy. If you're having difficulty with the log on, more specific instructions are below.
I have every seniority list Delta published between July 1, 1968 and July 1, 2000, but we need many more. Many Delta pilots are "pack-rats" and what we need from each of you are copies of any lists of DELTA pilots that show Employee Numbers especially. Please send a copy of any lists you have to one of us: me, Julian Black or Dave Davis preferably as an email attachment. Here are our addresses for the TO: line and my mailing address is below.
David L. Roberts <robertsDL@mindspring.com>. Julian Black <jublack@mindspring.com>, Dave Davis <dave@davedavis.org>,
Please send those ASAP and it will greatly help our effort. Please forward this letter to YOUR list of Delta pilot email addresses to insure more pilots know about this effort and can help us add information.
Thanks for your help with this,
Dave

2.
Email DAVID above for
the login instructions which will not be published here.
3. Then click LOGIN.
4. Now you have a blank page
that should say WELCOME with your name to the right of the LOGIN button.
5. Click on UPDATE and your
profile page should appear. This is a good time to insure everything
posted is correct and if not, correct it. This is where you can change
your password if you wish and when everything is filled out the way you want
it, click on the UPDATE button at the bottom of the page. When the word
UPDATE turns GREEN your profile has
been updated.
6. On the upper line, click
on VIEW and the blank DISPLAY page appears. In the red banner
line there is a Begin Value block and an End Value block and a menu block with
a down arrow. It usually has LAST NAME showing until you click the down
arrow and then other items can be selected.
7. As a first use, I suggest
putting your date of hire in the Begin block and then click the down arrow
until DATE OF HIRE appears. Click the DISPLAY HIRE DATES button and
everyone hired on that date should appear in alphabetical order. You
should be able to see your entire class listed.
If this doesn't work let me
know. If it does work look through the list and let me know if any of
your new hire classmates are NOT listed. Then have fun with the
LIST any way you'd like. You can search names, dates of hire, retirement
dates or flew west dates. ENJOY...!!

Answ: Hi
guys,
Yep, we're letting anyone who chooses so, to OPT OUT. Nothing of their data on the list. But we're looking into other issues while the website is down temporarily.
Up again soon I hope.

REMARKS--HL-223
To the Honorable and Noble Mark Sztanyo,
It was all very excellent and very well written. You must have had some good English teachers in that small town in Michigan. But I wonder if they could spell and pronounce your Magyar-Hungarian name.
To paraphrase Churchill: "No where among the DAL retired pilots have so many owed so much to just two, Dave Roberts and Mark Sztanyo."
By the way I remember you as an excellent flight engineer on the B-727. Very professional. I can't remember if we flew together as Captain and F/O, but I am certain you did an excellent job at the F/O position also.
Do you remember when I made a P.A. I always told the passengers "Today we have favorable winds"? That did not necessarily mean tailwinds, but I always thought the winds could be worse. I figured no sense telling the passengers we had UNFAVORABLE WINDS. That would just cause anxiety. Besides the winds were usually figured into the flight schedule. And if you remember, I usually found a way to cut time off the flight by going direct when possible. I was always trying to save Delta some $$ and fuel.
Sincere best wishes for Ein Gutes Neues Jahr-[German] with abundant Blue Skies and Favorable Winds,
Bill Kerschner [your friend always]
