Safety/Security - HL 209 (1)

Subject: Fwd: Re: CAUTION:   business travelers using RENTAL CARS

Hi Mark,
Phil Sain originated this message and I got it while using a rental car here in Chicago.  Be forewarned...!!!
Additionally if you use the rental car's NAVIGATION system, remember to delete all your entries or they too will remain in the car's NAV system, such as the one I'm in now.  I see many waypoints and destinations other renters entered before me.
Feel free to edit this to fit the HiLife and thanks again and again for the great service you continue to provide for all of us.
Best regards,
Dave

It might be a good thing to put out on Mark’s and your web sites.

Hi Phil,

I'm in an Avis Lincoln (via priceline.com) in Chicago this week visiting our daughter and her family.  A lot of former renter's phone data is stored  in this car's dashboard screen display - so your email is very timely.

GOOD ADVICE..!!!

Dave

New Security Tips for business travelers using RENTAL CARS.

1.       Never ever connect your phone over Bluetooth to a rental car. The sync can, depending on the car, grab more than you want it to and your data stays with the car long after you leave.
2.       Never connect your phone to a USB port in a rental car – your assumption that it is just a charging port, is probably inaccurate.
3.       The convenience isn’t worth the price of a breach. Your smartphone is a great hacker resource for passwords, emails and documents.
