Subject: Rob meeting with Delta
Mark,
While I’m gratified the company has agreed to meet with Rob
in November, I can’t hold out much hope for a successful outcome. The
response from Rob Kight has always been the same each time this issue was
addressed. What happened in bankruptcy was agreed to by all of the
concerned parties and the issues are settled. The pilots receive a
settlement for their claim in bankruptcy, just like other creditors. End
of subject. In one final act of desperation and in hope of putting a
little more pressure on the meeting I sent the following email message to Mr.
Anderson. Hopefully, others will follow the lead and send a message of
their own. His email address is xxx@delta.com. I have not received a
response.
Ron Stowe
Editor: Ron, thanks for your
thoughts. (Please read Ron’s letter to
Mr. Anderson below). Ron, I think you
are right square dab in the middle of where most of us are at with this
effort. Believe me when I say that those
leading the effort are very very realistic, yet at the same time we also think
that it is high time an appeal should be made to the company and we further
believe that the timing is good. As you
mentioned the corporation has more than healed and is now raking it in. We feel it is high time a new management team
hears again about our collective situation.
We intend to make known again the
injustice that was done. Maybe we won’t
get anywhere, but we are going to give it every effort as we all feel it is
that important.

Mr. Richard Anderson
CEO Delta Airlines
Dear Mr. Anderson,
Unbelievable – 1.37 billion dollar quarterly profit!
Congratulations are in order. However, it was a
bitter-sweet experience for me to read the news. I am proud that my company is
doing so well and earning records profits, yet, at the same time I feel
betrayed by Delta when I look at the hit my monthly pension took during
bankruptcy. I lost 68% of my qualified benefit when the retirement plan was
turned over to the PBGC and I lost 100% of my non-qualified benefit when this
plan was terminated in bankruptcy. I believe retired pilots are the
only group at Delta that does not enjoy a company pension plan.
I was part of the group of 3500 pilots that signed a
petition requesting you to please take a look at restoring some of these lost
benefits. Restoring the non-qualified pension payments to the entire
group of retired pilots would be a very small amount of money considering the
profits being generated by the company. And the amount of money required
to pay these benefits is being continually reduced every day as more and more
pilots die.
Please consider honoring our request to restore these earned
benefits.
Sincerely,
James Stowe
