Subject: Motel/Hotel booking scam by "discount"
brokers?
Note: I don't know if any of your readers have
had this happen to them but here goes. Recently, I booked a motel
room, via their internet site, at a Hilton chain motel in western New York
State. It was a favorite motel I had stayed at several times when
driving to the midwest, and one that always gave a AARP
discount. When I checked into the motel, I was advised that my
reservation had been booked by EXPEDIA! WTF? I had booked
a supposed cheap room a few years ago with this outfit, but in this case
Expedia had PREEMPTED my internet booking and apparently using my Email address
took it upon themselves to do the booking complete with ALL their fees and
charges (A.K.A. = NO discounts, and at a big $$ price). It smells illegal as
hell, and the management at the motel said it's a ongoing problem and
recommended that I call their 800 number at all times to do future
bookings. So, it appears this bunch of crooks is out there able to
preempt any and all bookings and cannot be
"unsubscribed"! As for me, this bunch can
stick their EX up their PEDIA. (That's what I told them +
"stronger letter to follow"!) I wonder if all the
advertised cheapo motel brokers operate this way. So, watch your six
and use a 800 number at all times. Bob Campbell
