RE: Delta's Medicare Reimbursement Payments

Capt David Roberts asks and gets an answer below.

7/15/2025
Recently I received some emails asking about Delta's Medicare
Reimbursement Payments.  I am not getting them and no longer recall
the eligibility requirements but I need more information to answer
some questions about them.  Apparently the company is now sending
them into Direct Deposit but some are having difficulty with the
application form.

If you are receiving these payments please drop me a note and tell me
what was necessary to qualify for the payments.  Are they just for
pilots or for all employees?

Thanks for your memories...!!!

Dave

++++

Dave,
I get the reimbursement payments because I signed up for
early retirement in 1996. The Medicare payment was part of the
sweetener package for the 505 pilots that signed up for it. It
includes the spouse's reimbursement also.

However, it is not modified to include medicare premiums that are
doubled or tripled due to high income.

The notification on the last reimbursement checks said that they were
going to direct deposit. That is not true for the Medicare
reimbursement program.

I received an e-mail from Delta after trying to sign up for direct
deposit informing me of that.

Individuals who qualify do not have to do anything. Checks will
continue coming.

Clint

Hello all,

On July 15th I sent the message below to you asking for
information.  Thanks to retired Delta Captain Clint Johnson for his
excellent answer.

Disregard the Direct Deposit application for the Medicare
Reimbursement as it is apparently not covered by Direct Deposit.

NOTE:  This is NOT a message from  Delta Air Lines, this is the
retired pilot 'grapevine' so understand that this may not be "THE
REST OF THE STORY"...!!!

With my best regards,

Dave

IMPORTANT SURVIVOR information in many former HL issues but INSURANCE section of High Life 340 and FINANCE section of 336 a good resource to keep.

CORRECTION to language I used in HL 350 for the D & S Plan TRUST

All Archived High Lifes issues:  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BzB_SBDmSd9AMzViODQ3MDQtODhjYy00YzkwLThiMzktM2FhMDEzMDZhYjA0?resourcekey=0-sovghKhA1zNRWP5SUxjUqA&usp=sharing

I previously used the word ‘unfunding’ or ‘defunding’  the Trust but I believe that is in error and can cause unnecessary misunderstanding.  The Company is not defunding the Trust but rather funding it ‘monthly’ as opposed to carrying a long term balance.  There IS a tax advantage for both Company and Beneficiary from the Section 501(c)(9) nature of the Trust so, one would expect to see the Company continue to keep the Trust even though the funding is not executed well in advance.
