Boy,
have we been exposed to “spin” in this day.
The news media does it, the political parties do it, and of course
sometimes our large corporations do it. During
this pandemic we have been given a ton load of ‘spin’ but as to honesty……not so
much. Somethings that were supposed to
keep us safe simply do not work OR can produce bad side effects or injury……
don’t ‘spin’ it, just level with the public.
If Delta is cutting the schedule back at a time when demand is exploding
and they cite this reason to; "build additional resilience in our system and
improve operational reliability for our customers and employees." Is that
the whole truth? Maybe you might not
think of this as “spin” but this press release left me spinning and certainly
wondering. Here below are two articles describing the pullback while demand
is through the roof.
Delta Air Lines to scale back 100 daily
flights during summer travel season

ATLANTA - Atlanta-based Delta Air
Lines is cutting about 100 daily departures over the summer. Those flights are
mostly in the U.S. and Latin America.
The decrease will start on July 1 and will last through Aug. 7.
Delta said the summer strategy will "build additional
resilience in our system and improve operational reliability for our customers
and employees." The airline said it would make adjustments as
needed in the coming weeks.
"More than any time in our history, the various
factors currently impacting our operation – weather and air traffic control,
vendor staffing, increased COVID case rates contributing to higher-than-planned
unscheduled absences in some work groups – are resulting in an operation that
isn’t consistently up to the standards Delta has set for the industry in recent
years," said Chief Customer Experience Officer Allison Ausband. "We
deeply appreciate the energy and efforts of our people and the confidence of
our customers as we adapt and pivot to ensure we provide the airline-of-choice
experience we're so proud to be known for."
Delta is working to notify customers impacted by the
changes. The company said the best way to get updates is through its app.
No word on how many of those flights impact Hartsfield-Jackson
Atlanta International Airport.
The airline projects a 25% increase in Memorial Day
traffic alone.

Delta to ‘strategically decrease’ flights this summer

Delta to ‘strategically decrease’ flights this summer
(CNN) — Delta Air Lines on
Thursday announced it will cut about 100 flights a day from its schedule this
summer to "minimize disruptions and bounce back faster when
challenges occur."
The airline cited rising demand
and the challenges of "rebuilding Delta's full-scale operation" in
its announcement of cuts to its daily departures between July 1 and August 7,
which will primarily affect markets in the US and Latin America.
Delta said it would continue to
adjust its schedule in the coming weeks.
"More than any time in our
history, the various factors currently impacting our operation -- weather and
air traffic control, vendor staffing,
increased Covid case rates contributing to higher-than-planned unscheduled
absences in some work groups -- are resulting in an operation that isn't
consistently up to the standards Delta has set for the industry in recent
years," said Allison Ausband, chief customer experience officer, in a
statement.
Delta isn't the first airline to
trim its summer schedule due to operational issues.
JetBlue announced in April that
it would cut 8% to 10% of its summer schedule due to "continued industry
challenges." Alaska Airlines reduced its schedule by about 2% through June
to match "pilot capacity."
Delta also issued a travel
waiver on Thursday for the Southeast and Northeast for Memorial Day weekend --
effective May 26-28 -- citing inclement weather forecasts in those regions.
Affected airports are listed in the waiver posted on Delta's website.
Fare differences will be waived
when rebooked travel occurs on or before May 31.
Delta's announcement comes as 3
million Americans are expected to travel by air over the Memorial Day holiday,
according to AAA estimates. That figure is up 25% over last year and is approaching
the 2019 figure for air travelers over the holiday period.
In total, AAA expects 39.2
million people to travel 50 miles or more from home over the holiday.

Dear PCN,
Please allow me to talk shop a little with you regarding the Google
services which we use for maintaining our distribution list and publishing our
blogs. The topic concerns using Google
and Google services to communicate with you those in the PCN. I use a service called Google Groups and once
your email is added to the group and the settings are correct to receive every
email, then that allows Carol and myself to send a single notice out inside the
Google Group App and it emails ‘everyone’ in the group INSTANTLY. Believe me, with a group nearly the size of
3,000 that is a very handy benefit.
Using this method also virtually eliminates bad actors seeing our
stuff. All we have to be is a little
careful about who we add to the distribution list and that protects us all from
the outside world of scammers and hackers invading our space.
Secondly, we publish the High Life generally every month in TWO WAYS. The first and primary way, that the High Life is published, is ONLINE at the PCN Blogspot. Where the newsletter reside for only our select group who has the link (only given out through our PRIVATE notice email) By the way if you wish to visit the ONLINE High Life it always resides at this same link, simply SAVE it, add to Favorites or Click on it: http://pcnhighlife.blogspot.com/
I would recommend that you bookmark or add this link to your favorites
then you will always have the address for the latest online High Life.
The second way the High Life is available is via a PDF file that is
stored on the Google cloud called Google Drive.
I then share this file with the PCN via a link that is copied into each
notice of a new available and published High Life. Now recently, I sent out a request since I
was getting some member feed back of troubles with that link. The good news is that overwhelmingly you came
back that most aren’t having any trouble at all. However, there are a few who have gotten ”YOU
MUST HAVE ACCESS” message from Google, and subsequently cannot open the
file.
For the sake of those who have this problem. I first would say please view the HL via the
ONLINE version until we together can figure this out. The culprits could be one of the following:
·
I originally thought it was something wrong
with “HOW” I was sharing the link but there is too much evidence that that is
not the issue.
·
Then I thought that maybe some of the
members are clicking by mistake on the view ALL ARCHIVED ISSUES link and that link happens to be broken. Well, because of what George sent me this one
might be at least part of the problem AND IT HAS BEEN FIXED.
I did receive the last HL 338. However, I was unable to view ALL Archived Issues from HL 060 (or URL at: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/0BzB_SBDmSd9AMzViODQ3MDQtODhjYy00YzkwLThiMzktM2FhMDEzMDZhYjA0 )
Thanks for all you do,
George Tuttle
Editor: Because of the help George provided I did renew the 2 links in
the monthly notices that link to ALL the ARCHIVED ISSUES. I believe it will now work better.
·
Maybe a Browser that has some viral
protection that is shutting you out. Maybe a change of browsers will solve the
issue.
·
It also could have something to do with
other Google login members and Gmail users.
See this email from
Link:
Mark,
When I logged onto google, it said “You
Need Access”
Link Weis
PS. Google Drive has my email as linkweis19@gmail.com, but you changed that to the comcast
address
All this to say, with your help I aim to restore maintain
complete access to all members to EITHER method to view and read every issue of
the High Life. I have updated the
link to
view ALL ARCHIVED ISSUES. And
together hopefully we can eliminate any issues that a Google block is placing
on other Google login members from viewing files that are stored on their
Google Drive. Why I chose to publish
each issue two ways is precisely this reason that one way may not work for all
members. In for the continued future I will
publish the newsletter TWO WAYS to maximize opportunity for access. Thanks for
all your help. Mark
PS: Like Columbo used to say, “there’s just one more
thing.” Some of you got my “REQUEST”
just fine but HAVE NOT
RECEVIED HIGH LIFE NOTICES for a while.
If that happens to be your case then do what John Stauter did after I
told him to check the Junk or the Spam folder as sometimes email servers change
their rules and the move regular received emails into the Junk or Spam
folder. Here is what John sent:
“Yes, it (HL 338 Notice) was sent to the Spam folder for the first time ever.” Capt John Stauter
Moral to the story? The notices for HL’s go out every month and if you
aren’t receiving them……..check the Junk or Spam folder.
Follow Up to the above: THANK
YOU for all your responses as they have helped me identify some links that were
broken and needed attention.
Here below is a note from an ORD friend Capt Dick Diller that helped me

Mark,
It opened up for me with no problem. But I frequently am not able to open the obit portion of the death notices.
Thanks for your work.
Dick
Editor REPLY: Capt Diller, That is helpful info and I will look into the death notices. One thing to keep handy is the actual web page for Flight West. All obits are linked inside the notices BUT also published in full at the Flight West sight at this address. http://pcnflightwest.blogspot.com/ Its good to Bookmark or store in Favorites this link so one always can see the info Carol publishes about our colleagues. Hope you are doing well and sure have some good memories of flying out of ORD and as your FO.
