Pilot Application - Qualifications Considered
Delta’s Pilot Selection Team assesses a wide variety of qualifications to determine which pilot candidates are the most competitive.  No single factor determines a pilot’s standing in the evaluation process.  Some of the qualifications considered include:
·         Educational achievements, including quality of school(s) attended, courses taken, major(s), grade-point average(s), and advanced degree(s).  Transcripts will be required.
·         Flying experience as demonstrated by the quality, quantity and verifiability of the individual’s flight time.  The candidate’s personal flight training experience is also evaluated, including the quality of the school(s) attended, rating(s) achieved, and all checkrides and flight evaluations.  Recency of flight experience is another critical component in this process.
·         Complexity and types of aircraft flown with preference given to turbine aircraft.
·         Numbers and types of FAA licenses held.  Candidates must meet all FAA ATP minimum qualifications.
·         Nature and variety of flight conditions experienced in pilot career.
·         Accidents, violations, or incidents in which the applicant was involved.
·         Experience as Pilot-In-Command in turbine powered aircraft.
·         Experience as a flight instructor or line check pilot, particularly with an airline, in the military or at a top tier university aviation program.
·         Experience flying as part of a crew or in other flight capacities requiring cooperative team efforts.
·         Overall work history, especially following college graduation, including jobs held, career path(s) and progression, and any employment disciplinary action(s).
·         Aviation management experience or special project roles in flight operations or flight safety.
·         Human Factors (CRM) work experience or work with Professional Standards.
·         College intern for Delta or other airline(s) or airline type-rating scholarship.
·         Relevant awards, honors and volunteer service activities.
·         Record of traffic offenses and/or any other violations of the law.
·         Meaningful referrals from professional sources, Delta employees, and professional pilot organizations with whom Delta works in pilot recruitment.
·         Current or former employee of Delta or a Delta Connection Carrier.

How do I recommend a pilot applicant?

General
Recommendations for pilot candidates are made via an online request from the AirlineApps
website and/or by an email to the Delta Pilot Selection Team in Atlanta. These are separate
and unique methods to recommend a candidate, each explained below.
Before recommending a candidate, please ensure you are familiar with the prospective
pilot’s character, background and qualifications. You should confirm with the candidate that
he/she meets Delta’s specified minimum qualifications. Applications that do not meet
Delta’s minimum requirements are not accessible to the Pilot Selection Team and cannot be
reviewed. Please also remember that it is not appropriate to recommend casual
acquaintances as this devalues the process.
The candidate is encouraged to update his or her application through the AirlineApps
website at least every 60 days so the application remains current. Updates are
automatically integrated into the application thus enabling the Pilot Selection Team to
always view the most current information if the application is pulled for review.
Please note that we do not have a “preferential interview” process. Interviews are only
offered to the most competitive candidates, however; we do “pull” and “score” the
candidate’s application if you send an email recommendation to the Pilot Selection Team as
noted below.
Recommendations
Recommendations via AirlineApps: This recommendation will become part of the
candidate’s online application and may be referenced by the Pilot Selection Team during the
application review process. Provide the candidate whom you want to recommend with your
email address. The prospective pilot will use the AirlineApps system to send you an email
with instructions on completing your online recommendation. When your online
recommendation is submitted, the candidate will receive a confirmation email from Airline
Apps and will be able to view your recommendation at that time.
Recommendations via an email directly to the Pilot Selection Team:

This recommendation should be sent to PilotSelection.Delta@delta.com . Please write
“RECOMMENDATION” in the subject line. This recommendation will not be added to the
candidate’s AirlineApps online application for future review. Instead, this recommendation
ill trigger an internal process whereby our Pilot Selection Team will pull the online
application for a review, score the application and then determine if the candidate meets the
scoring minimums to be offered an interview. When you email the recommendation, expect
the following to occur.

Time Frame Action
Within 14 Days
You will receive an email from the Pilot Selection Team
notifying that your recommendation has been received.
Within 30 days
Your recommended candidate’s application will be pulled
for review and scoring.
After 12 Months from the
date of your email
If your candidate has not been offered an interview, you
may submit another recommendation for the candidate
and it will trigger this process again.
Status of Recommendation
We do not provide any status updates after you send your recommendation to the Pilot
Selection Team. If your candidate scores high enough, he/she will be offered an interview.
If invited for an interview, a multi-stage process occurs. Refer to the “Process” link on the
Pilot Selection web page for specifics. Status updates are deliberately not provided because
of the volume of applicants and the workload it would generate for the Pilot Selection Team.
If your candidate does not score well enough, his/her application is returned to the Airline
Apps system and if the candidate is not called for an interview within the next 12 months
you may submit another recommendation.

Please do not call or come in person to the Pilot Selection office in Atlanta. We do not accept
walk-in resumes or recommendations. Again, this is because of the volume of applicants
and the workload this would generate for the Pilot Selection Team. Likewise, do not call or
visit a Chief Pilot Office regarding the hiring process as Chief Pilots do not have access to a
candidate’s application or current status.

Questions

If you have any questions regarding this process, please send an email to
PilotSelection.Delta@delta.com  and write “QUESTION” in the subject line of the email. The
Pilot Selection Team will attempt to answer all questions in a timely manner; however,
during this very busy hiring cycle, the response time may be slow.
