HK’s can be the bane of all non revvers:
Had some relatives coming back from Paris and non-revving from DTW-BNA.  Well, the morning flight looked descent, when last checked the night before, but the next day the HK’s showed up.
29 HK’s destroyed the non-revs chances.
What are HK’s?  Here is what the Delta computer says:
8
RS
CONFIRMED CUSTOMER AFFECTED BY AN IROP AND AWAITING A SEAT ASGNMENT.
9
RS
HKI CONTINUED
10
RS
HK IN COMFORT PLUS
11
RS
CONFIRMED REVENUE CUSTOMERS AWAITING A SEAT ASSIGNMENT. THE AMOUNT OF (SEATS NOT ASSIGNED)ON THE AIRPORT STANDBY LIST WILL REDUCE ONCE THEY ARE GIVEN SEATS.

So HK1’s are those affected by IROP’s and are SBY’s but they and regular HK’s will be boarded BEFORE non-revs.  HK’s are confirmed pax but do not have an assigned seat and normally are not seated in Comfort. However, the practice of placing HK’s in comfort really makes non-revs chances even worse. Believe me these HK’s will ruin your whole day and if the agents seat them in the comfort section you will likely not get on.  Airports famous for HK’s – ALL HUBs including JFK, ATL, DTW etc.
How do you see HK’s?  They do not show up on the Standby List, but if you click the ‘old’ Airport Standby List (now called the Cleared List) it will show you the HK’s in the system, so far.  You have to REDUCE the number of seats available by these HK’s.
Next time you non-rev (if you still do) keep a watchful eye out for HK’s as these can easily impact whether you get on or not.

Believe it or not.  This feature is STILL DELAYED and not ready yet!
