Comments I'm seeking a little input here on
the NEW pass travel, recently announced. Hope I don't wander too much ,
but I'm OLD. This will apply to those of us who lost our pensions years ago. I
understand that there will be no more $50 annual fee for passes, but- 1. As I
understand it, if a Buddy Pass rider wants to come visit me and have a shot at
sitting in First/Business class. I have to use a pass/ticket [and my time] to
go to their departure point. Be it Jamestown, NY or Johannesburg, SA, then
downgrade my S3B pass to S4 and hope for the best. Same would apply to the
visitors return leg. What kind of advantage to the employee/retiree is this? I
have seen times, on international flights where the only seats available WERE
in Business. This appears to me to be a veiled attempt to exclude S4's from
ever having the opportunity to experience a ride up front. Who's
next-retirees?It would also seem that now I will be billed directly from Delta
[PBGC retiree] and have to collect the price from the "Buddy" who may
be using Pesos, Krona, Euros, etc. Now, the "Buddy" or myself will
have to absorb the cost of depositing a possible foreign currency into a U S
bank/Credit Union. Another employee/retiree benefit? 2. The pass value is even
more confusing to me. Since I'm being paid from the PBGC, I understand I'll
just be billed directly from Delta. Will the bill be under the old cost system,
or the new "imputed" value since my retirement check is coming from
the PBGC? Will Delta notify the PBGC of the pass charges, so that the PBGC can
"impute" it for tax purposes? Comments welcome- Joel Payne B767A ret.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Full post disclaimer in left column. PCN Home Page is located at: http://pcn.homestead.com/home01.html
