GET FAA CERTIFIED AS A DRONE PILOT!!!! The
easy way!
Hi PCN,
A little checklist from Mark so you can add a FAA Drone rating to your
license without hardly breaking a sweat.
If you are a certified pilot within the currency of a bienniel
flight review or flight check, you can easily become a rated Remote PIC for
drones. The FAA has developed an abbreviated course and process for
Part 61 Certificate holders to become a Part 107 UAS licensed "Remote
Pilot". If you want to spend at most a couple of hours you can add
this to your resume which certifies you as the PIC for very cool flight of
under 55 # drones for private OR commercial use.
What you need:
- Should have had a Bi-enniel Flight Review or some flight check within 24 MOS.
- Assure you have both a: FAA IACRA and a FAASafety.gov login
Now ,
1.Review the sample tests.
Linked here:
2. Then when you have a couple of hours to complete online course IN ONE SITTING. (the course
doesn't archive progress)
FAAsafety.gov login After logging in to
FAAsafety.com visit:
Under “Featured Courses” – click Part 107 Small Unmanned Aircraft
Systems (sUAS) then ENROLL
URL link below:
to enroll in 107 Course.
Complete the 2 hour course (Note: IN
ONE SITTING cause it doesn't record progress) Once done it
will activate the EXAM link button. Click and Complete the 35
question EXAM then SUBMIT. Note: because you are already a certified
pilot, this 35 question exam has been simplified and all of the chart questions
and normal pilot questions are ignored.
After Submitting the Exam Click CONITNUE and after survey and you will
then have links for your Graduation Certificate which you can
PRINT. Also, Click and SAVE a PDF file of your
certificate for your later IACRA application.
3. Now login into IACRA and start a new application for
"Remote Pilot" (NOTE: Review carefully when done and
assure you have attached the 107 graduation certificate before you
electronically sign and submit) once submitted note your FTN number in
your console and write it down somewhere. Also keep your login info handy
for next step and logout of IACRA.
4. Now call your "recommending CFI*" so he/she can log into
their IACRA and using your FTN access your application to review and then sign
and submit. *A recommending CFI is just
a CFI who has the drone rating. In a
pinch I can serve that role for you.
5. Now you can log back into your IACRA and on your console there
should be a button on your application "TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE"
Click and PRINT.
Yesterday you couldn't spell DRONE pilot and today you is one!
