Dear PCN (of over 2600 subscribers),
Approaching 6 Years:
This August the PCN and the High Life will see its six year
anniversary. While David Roberts started
this communication forum in 1998, my involvement began in August of 2009. We have experienced a lot together and it is
my hope to keep it all going. By way of
a little look back, here is our first High Life issue, HL 001 on 8-3-09 https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzB_SBDmSd9AMlVGQllPTklNd1E/view?usp=sharing
Message with some
meaning:
Today, I was privileged to hear a message about an Old
Testament character named Naomi. No,
don’t worry, no preaching here. The
message has a relative connection to something that most of us pilot retirees
have experienced here in retirement. Let
me explain. Naomi left her homeland in
search of food and sustenance and after 10 years returned. When someone recognized her and called out
her name, she said (and I paraphrase), “don’t call me Naomi, call me Mara
(meaning bitter) for when I left I was full and now upon return I am empty
handed.”
Now here is the take-a-way for me. When I was active at Delta I was, like Naomi,
“full.” Today, after past company
actions, it is easy to be bitter about
the way retirement has turned out. Here
is the part of the message that I need to take to heart and be more proactive
about. Bitterness can ruin a person. And for a time it was ruining me. I choose not to forgive a company’s willful
actions of unfairness, but I also am
choosing to work through my bitterness and like the old saying goes which I am
trying to adopt, don’t get bitter, get
better!
