Dear Fellow Pilots –
This e-mail goes to the Soaring Eagles and Silver Eagles who have an e-mail address with their respective organization. The January mailing to pilots on the PBGC list resulted in 582 responses from those eligible to a cash settlement of the 18 year legal challenge by retired US Airways pilots Jim Stephens and Dick Mahoney for unpaid interest on late distribution of lump sums (this settlement is unrelated to any of the Soaring Eagles issues).
We do not have e-mails of just those pilots included in the settlement, so we asked the Soaring Eagles and Silver Eagles to distribute to their lists. It was hoped that it would directly reach some of the affected pilots and also the former colleagues and friends of many others who could make contact. During the past four months several pilots have stepped forward and helped to locate fellow pilots and particularly spouses of deceased pilots. This was an important assist and our special thanks to those pilots for their extra effort.
But the search continues. We still need to locate 92 pilots/surviving beneficiaries, and the spouses of deceased pilots can be particularly difficult to locate.
The 92 pilots who have not responded to the mailed settlement form or e-mails are on page 2. Asterisks denote a deceased pilot. Other pilots may have died, but it has not been reported to the Soaring Eagles or Silver Eagles.
We are again asking for your help. If you have a connection or a clue to contact anyone on the list, please ask them to contact me. Or send me your information for follow up. As of now, we have until April 24, 2016, to locate these pilots/spouses/children. After April 24, 2016, all remaining settlement funds of $25,000 or more will be distributed to the responding Class Members. Remaining funds of less than $25,000 will be donated to charity.
Thank you for your help in locating these Class Members to enable getting the money where it belongs. Please know that we could not contact so many of the former colleagues of the pilots on this list without approval for this help from the boards of the Soaring Eagles and Silver Eagles plus the computer skills of Bill Kingston and ?????. Their collective assistance is essential and it is very much appreciated by the Stephens & Mahoney team.
