Dear PCN (of over 2600 subscribers),
“Sound the Alarm”
Those words were important in my childhood
development. Allow me to explain. Until a few days ago I nearly forgot about a
routine that we (our family) had all through our growing years. You see, my father drove the ambulance for
the local region and because of that he offered to man the Fire phone as
well. We had a special phone in one room
of the house that rang whenever there was a fire. When it rang…….we jumped! While my ma or dad took the info and
conducted all the follow up calls to alert the volunteer fire department and
get them headed in the right direction, one of us kids rang the siren that
served to alert everybody else in our town and township. That’s right, the local village siren (that
could be heard for miles around our town) was hard wired to a switch on the
wall of our house and us kids, me included, were the siren ringers. A little side note: the siren would scream at
its top note for as long as you left the switch on. So we each had our “style” for how long we we
leave it whine before we would wind it down for its next cycle. In reality the siren was just a motor that
you turned on and off, spinning a rotor that produced the high pitched
noise.
So since I was an early “alarmists” how did that affect
me as I grew and developed? Well, I
can’t say that it really had all that much of permanent character imprint on me,
except maybe that I liked loud things.
Maybe running the PCN and editing the High Life has some correlation,
but I doubt it. What I can say, though, is that I don’t have any hankering for
a switch on my wall that runs a powerful siren.
Those days are gone…....but not forgotten!

Super Bowl ………but!
Love the game and love the teams. But this year some tarnish on the event over
the prospect of deflated balls. Don’t
think it is a big deal and think if it was then the game should make the
consequences match the purported crime.
Regardless, next Sunday I will be watching and enjoying……..Katie Perry
that is!! Just kidding.
