Subj: Steve Keibler's 70th

Hi, pals of my dad! As you may know, he's (Steve Keibler ) turning 70 next month and I'm asking his close friends to email me a story or memory or quality that reminds you of him so I can compile them all into a book that celebrates what he means to his friends and family. It can be one sentence or a whole page. I just need it by next week because his bday is drawing near, and because I'm a journalist, so I always wait until I'm on deadline to get anything done. :)

Thanks so much for your help on this! Feel free to pass along my note and my email address to anyone you think would like to contribute. I really appreciate your help! (I have contacted Jack Zerr, Denny Sapp and Lee McTaggart through Facebook, just FYI.)

Subject: A WORD TO THE WISE

Mark,
I encountered a problem with the Delta Employee Service Center that I feel should be brought to light, which will affect me, my family and my financial well-being for the remainder of my life here on Earth.. This problem, if repeated could affect other Delta Air Line Employees, be they active or retired. It started in 2004 when my former wife decided that she wanted a divorce, My ex never worked, no children and no assets.  It got dark and dirty and eventually went to trial. In the latter part of 2004, I contacted Delta Employee Service Center and requested the cost of COBRA Healthcare Insurance. COBRA  stands for Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act.This is a program that provides healthcare for a spouse until the person attains the age of 65 and enrolled in MEDICARE.  There are four categories, Employee/Spouse, Employee and Spouse, Employee and Child and Employee and Family. At that point in time, I was advised  verbally by DESC that the cost of Employee/Spouse was $523 per month. I provided this figure to the court and this would become the determining factor in awarding Permanent Periodic Alimony in the State of Florida. In June of 2005 and in preparation for trial, I contacted the Delta Employee Service Center  to obtain the update on the COBRA figures for the soon to be ex wife. I was given a figure verbally of $950 per month, which seemed high, however my attorney did not question the figure nor did the Judge when I was asked for the figure at trial. The trial date was September14, 2006, which was two weeks before the Delta Bankruptcy went into effect. Based on that figure, my ex wife received half of everything plus $1200 per month, which is $950 plus tax, which equates to $14,400 per year Until Death Do Us Part or she gets remarried. I have paid this amount since October 01, 2006 and will pay this until Hell Freezes over. In 2010, I filed a Petition for Modification of Alimony in Florida. With that, I contacted the Delta Employee Service Center for the breakdown of the COBRA Healthcare costs for 2006. I received a letter from DESC stating that the $950 per month was the category for Employee and Spouse, when in reality, I should have been paying for Employee or Spouse. To date it has cost me in excess of $85,000 for overpayment plus I have been through four courts and five attorneys and in excess of $125,000  in legal fees and Court Costs.
In conclusion, The Court System is pro women in Florida and there are no provisions within the Florida Family Law Statutes for a rebate of an erroneous Alimony Payment. If you are the bread winner regardless if you are male, female, black or white, do not reside or get divorced in Florida and ensure that the figures  from DESC are in writing and an explanation of the figures.

Subj:  Expensive Ship Ever
The USS Gerald R Ford
The United States is building its next generation of aircraft carrier, the FORD-class carriers. The U.S. Navy gave us access to photograph construction of the USS Gerald R. Ford at Newport News Shipbuilding, Virginia.
The numbers behind the USS Gerald R. Ford are impressive; about $14 billion in total cost, 224 million pounds, about 25 stories high, 1,106 feet long, and 250 feet wide. But the sheer enormity of the ship and construction operation is hard to grasp until you’re nearly face-to-metal with the massive military beast.
At Newport News Shipbuilding the power of new technology and 100 years of carrier design is built into every facet of the new ship. The Ford will handle up to 220 takeoffs and landings from its deck every day. Part of that quick turnaround is because, when aircraft like the new F-35 return for maintenance, the plane’s network will already have alerted ground crews to what’s needed so they can get the aircraft on its way faster than ever before.
The new FORD-class aircraft carrier will be the largest, most lethal ship ever when it joins the US fleet in 2016.

Thought I would share an air view from my last rotation that included some Japan and Korea flying.  Here is a shot of Mt. Fuji west of Tokyo.
