Comments - I am a VEBA participant and used the HCTC to help
pay my premiums for the last couple of years. In anticipation of the HCTC
cancellation on Jan. 1st, I enrolled in the Delta High Value option and Delta
sent me a letter stating that I could cancel my Delta insurance at any time if
I was able to find more affordable insurance through the exchanges. So I
believe that in the unlikely event that the HCTC is extended, Delta would allow
me to opt out if I were able to keep my VEBA insurance. Hope this helps answer
Mark Cave's question.
Editor: Thanks Tim for chiming in on this and we all
agree that anyone can “cancel” insurance at any time. So your point is well taken. On the flip side the concern I have always
had is not canceling but enrolling. If
one misses the planned enrollment period for new insurance plan than the only
way to qualify is a “life” event. That
can be an issue. Your actions are typical of our lot of aviators that hope for
the best but plan for the worst. Glad
you are covered and thanks again.
