Mark,
Hi, this is Doug Lane ( 2005 ret). I was curious to know what air carrier you
are with. Even though I’m 61 and long past hiring age I’m still curious
what other Delta refugees are doing and how they have fared in aviation
related jobs since the bankruptcy. For myself I had a brief career with
LCC Skybus in 2008 and was grateful for the Airbus training on the A319.
Unfortunately I didn’t accumulate enough hours to hire on with another
company before they too were swallowed by bankruptcy and dissolved.. In any
event I enjoy your posts and I appreciate the responses from other Delta
pilots.

Editor:
Doug, I am flying for Omni Air Intl based in TUL. Pilots, on the other the hand, are home
based. I was hired as a street captain
on a B767 with a handshake. However, I
lost that seat and “handshake” when then got a union contract and
furloughed. The carrier fly’s charters,
sub service for other airlines and contracts with the DOD to move troops. The time away and pay is not the best, but I
am doing it to supplement my broken pension.
They are not hiring at the moment but in the past have hired off the
street pilots up to and including age
64.

SEATTLE:
My Delta retirement flight flew out of
Seattle and I am now currently on layover here again. The picture of the Cascades never gets old as
this area from the air is always fun to look at. The weather is warm here, but always nice
that the sun is bright.
