Hi, Carol - Sorry to hear about
Gib - we knew each other pretty well - at the time....but it has been a long
time..
Some factoids about Gib....he was a master
("cabinet-maker) carpenter - his house, on or near Lake Winnipesaukee, NH,
was filled, I gather, with splendid examples of his work. He had a photographic
memory - I sat beside him throughout initial ground school on the DC-9 (NE
days) in 1968...he would appear to be sleeping half the time, then suddenly
raise his hand to correct the instructor on some tiny error about small
mechanical things we were covering! He told me he officially had the
"photo" memory.
Last time I saw him was when getting on the
employee bus at Logan - which took us to OPS from the lot.
He was getting off, seemed pretty upset, and
told me he was coming back early from a trip - and said his arms had suddenly
begun to wave around uncontrollably - he obviously had something serious and
could not continue in the cockpit.
That was perhaps in ''71 or '72 - or somewhat
later. I wished him well, and that's the last time I saw him - and never heard
any follow-up from anybody as to what his medical problem was, or what became
of him.
Regards - Mike Wood
