Potential Malware Computer Attack:
The
following is SAFE and authorized by the FBI to check your computer to see if it
is infected before Monday (tomorrow). I
did it and it performed a computer check.
TAKE
THIS SERIOUS because the malware (if present) is vicious!

Subscriber
Feedback:
The PCN is made up of over 2600 known
subscribers and we have been at it now evolving our format of distribution for
3 years this August. We insist on a sign
up procedure to keep our group “known” (so that spammers and the like cannot
intrude and gain access). We own a
Google Group that is used for email distribution and now a Blogspot for
publishing and archiving our newsletter.
We try to provide this group with the following services: High Life
Newsletter, News, Events, Deaths, Illness Notices & PCN Ads & Calendar. We serve to keep this group informed and
connected. Now it is time to get a
little feedback as to the efforts of the PCN.
Please help us by responding to the Poll that we can take to understand
how to do better.
The PCN never implies that we are
the only web based tool for our pilot group retirees. We know of a number of different
sources. Because of the services we provide
we are one of the biggest and of course we would like to improve our efforts to
meet your needs and some of your expectations.
I was going to draft a poll but
would ask you to fly out an email feedback with any comment or suggestions to misc@pilotcommunication.net Thank you!

Reflections
about how it was:
For the first decade in my (and your)
Delta career, there was an intimacy for flight crews with crew scheduling. In fact one of the main things that made a
base a base was checking with the schedulers about your schedule and maybe
asking a question or two before and after every rotation. Having schedulers there, that you could talk to,
plead with and even bribe (tongue-in-cheek) was a real great thing. It made the work place feel like an
office. The passing of crew scheduler
Gary Glass from his ORD crew scheduling days brings this all back. Gary was a great guy and well liked. He helped me out numerous times. Gary could do the job (cover the trips for
the company) help a pilot out, and do it all with a smile. On top of that, there was nothing like actually
talking with him and the other schedulers in person and building a real relationship. When the $#&@ hit the fan, these guys
would spring to the rescue and take care of the problem moving airplanes and
people. One day on the way to pick up a pay-check
at the ORD lounge in my Bermuda shorts and a T-shirt, Gary and the boys saw me
walk in and nabbed me. “Can you fly?”
they all asked. “Well,… I guess so.” I
said. And just like that I was off to
gate 7 and now on a 4-day with no RON and toiletries flying in my flip flops. At first I felt a little discombobulated but
later found it all quite unique and fun.
Delta lost something when they
centralized and sequestered crew scheduling.
I understand their reasoning but in reality I believed it flawed. Like a lot of decisions made in the ivory
tower, those in the field sometimes know what is best. Local and accessible crew scheduling, with
gentlemen like Gary Glass, was a real benefit and made my job at Delta more
enjoyable and the company (and
remote bases) run better. Blessings to the Glass family and for Gary….
RIP.
On the High Life Blog, I initially
was a little afraid that many in our group would use the
SHARE feature a lot and pass around
an individual post. Since most posts are
originated from the membership the editor has not necessarily check the
veracity nor necessarily agrees with the content. Therefore, I inserted a footer that contained
a disclaimer after every section of the High Life. Well, now that we all know the format a
little better and after taking the suggestion from a couple of Capt’s on this
issue, I have abbreviated the footer and
posted the Full Disclaimer in the left hand column. By the way, this is how the PCN and the HL
improves, you sending in some feedback on how to make it better.

Blog
Home Page Loads a Bit Slow:
Because of the RSS Feeds that I have
on the page, when you visit the blog it sometimes takes a few seconds to
load. A little trick. The Header image is a bit oversized and is
the last thing corrected before the page becomes active. Watch the image and when it shrinks to fit……
then the blog page is ready for action.
