Subject: Insurance Trust for Delta Retirees
Mark, one of your readers recently asked a question as to
why the Trust plan does not provide a letter designation in describing its
coverage benefits. The Insurance Trust for Delta Retirees provides a Group
Medicare Supplement type plan. This is different from an individual
Medicare Supplement plan, also referred to as a Medigap policy.
Individual Medigap policies must carry a CMS (Medicare)
letter designation from A thru N. All individual Medigap policies with a letter
designation must provide exactly the same benefits as any other policy carrying
the same letter designation, regardless of the insurance company offering the
policy. The letter indicates that that the policy is an individual insurance
policy.
Group plans, such as the plan offered by the Insurance
Trust for Delta Retirees, have no such requirements and may offer different
benefits if they wish. The group plan offered by the Insurance Trust for Delta
Retirees is most similar to CMS Medigap policies having the “F” designation,
but with additional benefits.
