A personal note from Wendy
Bob Doyle is trying to arrange this
reunion and I am his assistant.
As we
all know, hotels/events are not cheap today. With that said, the hotel
manager has worked with us to offer a nice event while trying to keep the price
down. This hotel is lovely and has been used previously for Delta
Christmas parties.
To
confirm this event with the hotel we need to know ASAP how many people plan to
attend; therefore, please let me know if you plan to attend by email at onedayx2@yahoo.com or call (859) 653-0107.
Make
your $45 check payable to "Wendy Murphy" and mail it to me at 3660
Oxford Court, Erlanger, KY 41018-2671.
So
far, the hotel has set aside 10 rooms at a discounted rate plus there will also
be a small discount for the cash bar. Please note, when you make your
hotel reservation don't forget to tell them you are attending the Delta reunion
to get the discount.
To add
a little fun, please bring a COPY of an old Delta picture with your name and
employment date written on the front of it and I will put them on some
whiteboards.
As I
get older, I know I wouldn’t want to miss this opportunity to visit with the
many people I worked with over the years and who still mean a lot to me.
I have already spoken with a few people about this event, and they are very
excited.
Please
help get the word out. QUESTIONS? Feel free to email, call or text
me anytime
This
will be a great, fun event that will stay etched in our minds forever. We
hope to see many CVG alumni in October!!!
Blessings,
Wendy

Delta hires powerful lawyer David Boies’ firm to seek
compensation from CrowdStrike and Microsoft for its outage
Delta Air Lines’ service
meltdown, which led to thousands of cancelled flights and a half million
stranded customers, cost the company hundreds of millions of dollars. And now
it wants Microsoft and the cybersecurity firm that caused the problem to compensate
it for at least some of its losses.
Delta has hired high-profile attorney David Boies’
law firm to seek damages from cyber security firm CrowdStrike and Microsoft for
the massive service issues it suffered last week following a badly flawed
software update caused problems in a key computer program.
The hiring of the firm of Boies Schiller
Flexner, first reported by CNBC, was confirmed to CNN by a
person familiar with the decision.
Delta’s costs could total between $325 million to
$475 million, according to a note published Tuesday by
Savanthi Syth, airline analyst for Raymond James.
Delta had no comment about questions about damages
it would be seeking. Microsoft also had no comment and CrowdStrike did not
respond to a request for statement.
The software update of Microsoft Windows systems
sent out by CrowdStrike to its customers late on July 18 caused widespread
computer outages at businesses around the globe. Although many businesses
recovered within hours, Delta faced problems for days, particularly struggling
to get its crucial crew-tracking software to work again.

Unable
to find the pilots and flight attendants it needed, Delta was forced to cancel
6,300 flights across its mainline operations and its
Endeavor Air feeder airline, which flies under the Delta Connection name,
through Tuesday, July 23, according to flight tracking service FlightAware.
That represented about 30% of its schedule. Another 9,300 of its flights were
delayed, representing more than two-thirds of the flights it was able to
complete in those five days. Delayed flights at the airline stayed elevated
through the rest of the week.
Delta agreed to provide cash refunds to passengers who canceled their travel on the airline. The company also
said it would compensate customers for the cost of flights on other airlines,
hotels and meals they purchased in order to complete their travel plans. It
also increased the pay of crew members for the week after the original outage.
Who is David Boies?
Boies and his firm won $290 million in 2023 from
JPMorgan Chase for Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse victims. He also was one of the attorneys who helped win the
government’s antitrust
case against Microsoft in 2000.
He also an investor, board member and attorney for
Theranos, the blood testing firm whose founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes is now serving
time in prison for defrauding investors.
Boeis was part of the defense team of Harvey Weinstein, the
movie producer who was was convicted in 2020 of first-degree
criminal sexual act and third-degree rape and in 2023 for sexual assault. Weinstein has had his 2020
conviction overturned on appeal but faces the possibility of a new trial on
those charges.

And Boies was the lead counsel for former
Vice-President Al Gore in his unsuccessful case before the Supreme Court
related to the vote counting in the 2000 presidential election. He was co-lead
counsel for the plaintiffs in Perry v. Brown, the Supreme Court case that
established the right to marry for gay and lesbian couples.

DELTA'S OLDEST LIVING PILOTS 2024
My Delta Friends,
Each year I compile a list of Delta's
Oldest Living Pilots, which includes ALL living pilots
from ANY airline that is now shown on Delta's Family
Tree schematic (attached below).
This is the FIRST list for 2024 and
is attached below in MS Excel format ----- and is current as of TODAY,
June 29, 2024 -- only...!!!
This list is created from various sources that
provide each pilot's date of birth. The age of each person increases by
one year on their day of birth using a
spreadsheet formula --- so the June 29 list is correct for today
only...!!!!
There are two lists of the same information below; first: the NAMES list,
is sorted alphabetically, and the second, the AGE List, is
sorted by Date of Birth. Each list includes, at the beginning, the 28
names of the Oldest Pilots of 2024 who died during 2024.
Due to privacy concerns I will NOT PUBLISH the
pilot's Date of Birth, only the month of birth and the pilot's age - as of the
particular DATE of this report -- which is stated at the top
of the report. But to compile this report accurately I need each pilot's
exact Date of Birth in this private data base. There are 1050 names on
this years list but 28 of these passed away earlier this year. Their
names are highlighted in Yellow and are listed at the beginning of each
report. The 2023 Oldest Pilot list had 854 names!
If you know Spouse names for any of those not
shown, please click Reply and send me that information. If any pilot
shown passes away during 2024 they will be highlighted in Yellow with their
date of death shown.
I arbitrarily determined several years ago that
a good age for inclusion on this list was the calendar year the pilot reached
the age of 86 and the 2024 list is now as complete as I can make
it. For the year 2024 any living pilot from any of the companies
now on Delta's Family Tree with a date of birth of 1938 or earlier should be included. The list
is a work-in-progress so help me make it grow, in size and accuracy.
If you know of a pilot whose name is missing and
should be included, please send me that pilot's FULL name, Spouse's name, the
pilot's Date of Birth and Date of Hire and the pilot's ORIGINAL airline company
--- or as much of this as you know. If the spouse is deceased, please
include that information with the spouse's name.
Let's celebrate Delta's Oldest Living Pilots
again-and-again. Send them a Birthday Card or an email at the beginning of
their month of birth. That's close enough to their birthday for us old
folks.
As you can see this list has grown tremendously
with each pilot's original company included. Look for a much longer list
early in 2025. This is the list you want to be on before getting on
that 'Other List' we see so often..!!
Please FORWARD this email with
the attachments to all of your Delta friends as I only
have a limited number of email addresses. Let us insure that
everyone ON this list receives a copy OF this
list..!!!
Thank you for your help.
Stay safe out there.
